Iris

History and Origin:

Iris is a genus of approximately 300 species in the Iridaceae family and native to many areas within the Northern hemisphere, although mainly located in colder, mountainous regions. The word ‘Iris’ is derived from the Greek word for ‘Rainbow’ and was in fact the name of the Greek Goddess who served as the messenger between all gods, the personification of the rainbow and provided a connection between heaven and earth. Iris is also the national flower for Croatia and throughout time has come to mean faith, hope and wisdom.

About:

Iris are rhizomatous or bulbous perennial plants with distinct and stunning flowers, consisting of large, curved pendant-like petals. Elegant, slender foliage will neatly sit beneath these striking blooms, held together by robust, vertical stems. Depending on colour and province, irises signify a specific meaning. A yellow iris will symbolize passion, where others symbolize bravery and admiration.
