Galega

History and Origin:

Galega is a genus of plants within the Fabaceae family, native to the Middle East. It is more commonly known as Goat's-Rue, French lilac and Italian fitch. The genus name is believed to derive from the Greek term for milk (gala) and goat (aigos) because medieval Europeans believed that it increased milk production in livestock when eaten.

About:

Galega are vigorous and bushy perennial plants with long slender stems, dark pinnate leaves and tightly packed clusters of pea-like flowers during summer and autumn. Galega are best suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage and informal garden setting. You should expect to see Galega grow to an approximate height of 1.5 metres (5) and a spread of 1 metre (3).
