Echeveria are a genus within the Cassulaceae family, native to South America. It is documented that the plant was discovered by botanical explorers Martin Sesse y Lacasta and Jose Mariano Mocino who spent the years between 1789 and 1803, describing and illustrating the genus, eventually naming it after an 18th century Mexican botanical artist, Atanasio Echeverria y Godoy.
Echeveria are evergreen succulent perennials or subshrubs, native to Mexico with attractive rosettes of thick fleshy leaves and groups of urn-shaped flowers throughout spring. They are best suited in small pots and containers in a cool, airy environment such as a conservatory or a greenhouse.
