Calendula is a genus within the Asteraceae family and are more widely referred to as ‘Marigolds’. They are native to Asia, Western Europe and the Mediterranean. The name ‘Calendula’ is derived from the Latin term ‘Calendae’ meaning ‘little calendar’ or ‘little clock’. Ancient civilizations such as the Greeks and Romans would use the Calendula flower as part of spiritual rituals often wearing them as part of decorative garments and accessories.
Calendula are woody-based perennials or annuals that are more commonly known as the ‘Marigold’. Calendula produce thick majestic stems and substantial, showy, daisy-like flowers in vibrant shades of orange and yellow. Some varieties will even produce a divine fragrance.
