Arum is a genus of flowering plants native to Europe, west and central Asia and northern Africa, with most being native to the Mediterranean. They are also known as Arum lilies, although they are not related to true lilies.
Arum are tuberous perennials with flowers that are borne on a poker-shaped spike, known as a spadix, which is partially enclosed within a leaf-like hood known as a spathe. The spathe can be purple, brown, white or yellow in colour. After flowering, the blooms then develop into red or orange berries. These berries, along with all other parts of the plant are poisonous. Arum well-suited to planting in borders and beds.
