Tell Me More...
Bright and abundant blooms from June to October are supplied by this bundle of stylish attention seekers. The velvety looking petals of these daisy-like blooms give an opulent impression in pots, rockeries and open ground. Native to South Africa, flowers are large, up to 8cm across, and produced in abundance as long as you continue to deadhead the faded flowers. Foliage is silver-grey and emerges in March, also lasting through to October time. Stems are tall and strong enough to be cut for a vase, so that you can enjoy the warming tones inside your home too. The ‘Starry-eyed Arctotis Collection’ is made up of ‘Hannah’ with orange red petals; ‘Heidi’ in warming golden yellow tones; and x hybrida hort. ‘Holly’ in luxurious, deep red. Ideal for mass planting, the colours enhance each other and grow to reach a height and spread of 30-40cm. As tender, herbaceous perennials plants will need protection from frost. Arctotis are frequently grown as annual bedding in the UK yet can be overwintered in a heated greenhouse or conservatory then returned outside the following year. All prefer well-drained soil of any type except clay and enjoy a position in full sun.
