An unusual and intriguing shrub with almost luminous, variegated foliage in silvery green, edged with creamy white. Caryopteris x clandonensis 'White Surprise' is a relative of mint, sage and hyssop benefiting from similar aromatic foliage and a propensity to draw in bees to its summer and autumn flowers. Blooms are produced in whorls with long, protruding stamen and an enchantingly fluffy, cloud-like appearance once fully open. Buds emerge in an intense blue and open to a softer, lilac hue as they mature. Caryopteris x clandonensis 'White Surprise' holds its attractive leaves on strong, woody stems from March to November each year adding beneficial mounds of gap-filling interest in borders, containers and borders. Plants reach a height of up to 1m and spread to 1.5m when mature and once established they are beneficially drought tolerant. Prefers a spot in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from a south or west facing aspect in full sun. Hardy, deciduous shrub with an RHS rating of H4.
