Let’s spice things up a little… Capsicum annuum ‘Gusto Purple’ is as decorative as it is delicious. With blossom emerging from July to October, fruits emerge green, then mature to purple and finally bright red from July to October. Native to southern North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America the peppers have a medium level of heat which intensifies as the fruits mature. Peppers are perfect for eating fresh in salsas and other savoury dishes or can be dried and preserved or made into your own powder. Elongated peppers hang from the plant for ornamental impact as well as culinary use. Blossom is white, sometimes with tinges of purple and acts as a draw for bees and other pollinators. Happy in a pot or in the ground Capsicum annuum ‘Gusto Purple’ prefers moist, well-drained soil which is loam or sand based. Position in full sun. A warm, temperate annual which grows to a height of 60cm with a spread of 50cm.
