Tell Me More...
Like a beacon, voluptuous, iris-like flowers are held high - shining out from June until September, and sometimes beyond. Plumes of rich, colourful, banana-like foliage, in shades of red, pink, yellow and gold are reminiscent of fiery flames, creating a dense, dramatic, and architectural display beneath. With more than a hint of the tropics, Canna ‘Tropicanna’ thrives when grown in a pot or open ground over the warmer months offering dramatic jungle foliage and bright blooms to the garden. Flowers are followed by hard seeds, resembling shotgun pellets which give this beauty its common name. Canna ‘Tropicanna’ prefers to be grown in moist, rich, well-drained soil where it receives full sun. Plants reach a mature height of 1.5m, with a spread of around 60cm. A tender perennial which will require some protection from winter cold, either by lifting or storing pots in a heated area when temperatures consistently fall below 5°C.
