Tell Me More...
Dependable and delightful, Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii 'Caerulea' makes a magnificent show. Clusters of lavender-blue, star-shaped blooms are held on tall stems from thick clumps of strap-shaped foliage for many weeks in mid to late spring. An eye-catching bloom which will naturalise in wildlife gardens, mixing amongst early flowering herbaceous perennials or find a perfect spot under your trees in dappled shade. Also known as the Indian Hyacinth, Camassia are native to North West America. The bulbs are said to be edible and nutritious, apparently tasting a little like sweet potato when baked, although we would not recommend trying them yourself. Flowers are also excellent in vases and bouquets, with strong stems lasting up to 2 weeks in a vase.Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii 'Caerulea' is beneficially deer and rabbit resistant and prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil which sits in either full sun or partial shade. Stems reach an approximate height of 90cm and spreading to 20cm. Ensure the bulbs do not sit in wet over winter and your bulbs are hardy (H4) throughout most of the UK.
