Tell Me More...
Camassia cusickii commonly known as Cussick's camass orginated in North America and were originally added to horticultural journals in the late 19th century. Vivid blue starry flowers form a spike of a bloom. The flowers ripple open from the bottom up and have long bright yellow-green stamens as a contrast. The stems hold them above narrow-leaved foliage. Wild hyacinths as they are also known offer a beautiful focal point when placed front or centre of a border. They can also make a statement as a clump in a container. Plant these bulbs in September-October for a beautiful display in May-June. These perennial flowers prefer moist well-drained soils in a sunny/shady but sheltered spot in the garden. Cussick's camass is perfect for a cut flower in a vase or as part of a flower arrangement. These bulbs naturalise easily but appreciate a layer of mulch in autumn to protect from frost.
