Native to Australia, callistemon are grown for its colourful, pollinator-friendly, bottlebrush-like flowers. Frequently seen in red shades, in the case of ‘Honeypot’ flowers are more unusual and a brighter, buttery yellow in colour – lighting up the garden like rays of sunshine from May to July. Callistemon ‘Honeypot’ has small, narrow, pointed, evergreen foliage and is a half-hardy (H3), medium sized shrub. Plants are able to withstand temperatures down to -5°C without additional protection if located in a sheltered spot. For best results, grow at the foot of a sunny wall, or in a container, so your Callistemon ‘Honeypot’ can be brought indoors during colder weather (a cool greenhouse or conservatory is ideal). Flowers are excellent for cutting with a long vase life and foliage releases a pleasant, lemony scent when rubbed. Callistemon ‘Honeypot’ prefers moist, well-drained, moderately fertile soil with an acidic to neutral pH. Heavy clay is best avoided due to waterlogging. Plant in full sun (the more sunlight received, the more flowers produced) and this half-hardy, evergreen shrub will mature to a height and spread of 1.5m.
