Beauty by name and by nature, Callicarpa bodinieri var giraldii Profusion is also known as The Beauty Berry. In summer racemes of stunning, pink-purple flowers appear on upright branches, but the realy beauty starts as the autumn foliage turns pink-orange and falls. By late autumn and winter, large, compact clusters of vibrant, almost metallic-like, violet-purple, bead-like berries form. These berries look spectacular whilst glistening in the sun on the bare branches and are prized by florists, as they are excellent for floral arrangements both when laden with berries, and also when the new, young, purple foliage is emerging.Named bodinieri after Emile-Marie Bodinier, a French botanist from the 19th Century.Callicarpa bodinieri var giraldii Profusion prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun. Growing to a height of 3m and spread of approximately 1.8m, it is fully hardy so will flourish outside to be enjoyed all year round without the need for any winter protection.
