Tell Me More...
Undemanding, reliable, shade-loving evergreenFor a damp, shady spot we heartily recommend Blechnum spicant, a striking evergreen fern, forming neat tufts with its dark green, glossy, narrow leaves. Chunky, sterile fronds spread semi-horizontally to form a rosette, around the taller, upright, more delicate, centrally located fertile fronds, giving the plant a charming, 'two-leaved' appearance. Perfect for providing year-round interest in shady spots, as well as being terrifically low maintenance. This blechnum is happy to nestle at the base of stone walls, or in shaded rock gardens, where its presence can create a wild, naturalistic feel. From moist woodlands and moors around the temperate world, including the UK, this fern prefers moist, humus-rich, acid soil in partial or deep shade. H&S: 50cm x 45cm. Hardy, evergreen perennial.
