A member of the mint family which is perfect for growing in a gravel garden, rockery or dry area where many other plants will struggle to thrive. Ballota pseudodictamnus offers spectacular, felty foliage form most, if not all, of the year. Its bushy growth will suppress weeds as it scrambles and spreads up to 70cm and stems are excellent for cutting to add to a vase or bouquet too. From May to June each year whorls of small reddish pink flowers are produced, creating pretty carpets of silvery green, flecked with colour. Ballota pseudodictamnus is a generous, leafy and low growing shrub – reaching a height of around 80cm – which combines well with bearded iris, rosemary and phlomis. Plants prefer a well-drained soil with a neutral or alkaline pH of any kind except heavy clay. Position this hardy (H4), evergreen sub-shrub in full sun for best results.
