Tell Me More...
Astilbe 'Dark Side of The Moon' is an exciting variety of astilbe. Dark, almost black, leaves emerge in April, forming mounds of rich, chocolatey leaves lasting up to 7 months! Then, in June, strong, dark stems emerge and bear fluffy, deep pink-purple flowers through summer. Perfect for a damp area of the garden which will be enhanced by this unusual colouration.Astilbe 'Dark Side of The Moon' was not only new to us in 2023, it was new to the gardening world too, and it's rich and vibrant nature is proving to be incredibly popular. Astilbes are native to the mountain ravines and woodlands of East Asia and North America. They were introduced in the late 1800s and have been crossed and developed to form newer, more intriguing varieties ever since. Plants are highly sought after for their plumes of colour and reliability in shadier parts of the garden. Astilbe 'Dark Side of The Moon' is a fully hardy, herbaceous perennial. Plants prefer moist (not waterlogged) soil in sun or shade and reach a height of 60cm with a spread of 80cm.
