Tell Me More...
Originally bred to be grown under mounds of soil to produce white spears, Asparagus officinalis 'Vittorio' is a superb, disease-resistant, late season Asparagus producing tender spears which can be eaten both raw and cooked. Home-grown Asparagus offers excellent value for money as well as fabulous taste and huge satisfaction when you're harvesting. Easy to grow and cook, asparagus is considered one of the most desirable 'superfood' vegetables to plant - an excellent source of fibre, folates, essential vitamins, and antioxidants. Plant Asparagus officinalis 'Vittorio' bare-root crowns in spring into well-prepared and well-drained beds which benefit from full sun. Allow asparagus to establish into strong plants during the first year or two before cutting spears for the kitchen. Subsequent early summer harvests will be well worth the wait. A hardy perennial vegetable which reaches a height of 1.5m (including flower stem) and a spread of 60cm.
