Asclepias tuberosa gives a brilliant, lively orange haze. In spring, willowy stems produce a large cluster of bead-like buds, which open to reveal copious amounts of blazing orange, nectar-rich blooms. An impressively bright and sunny summer display which continues, successionally, from June to October. As flowers fade decorative, elongated pods follow in autumn offering extended interest. Cut stems also last well in a vase, making a zingy addition to your indoor floral arrangements. Asclepias tuberosa prefers a well-drained soil of any kind except chalk based. Position in full sun with a south or west facing aspect. A hardy (H4) herbaceous perennial which reaches a height of 90cm, spreading to 60cm. Tolerant of temperatures down to around -5 to -10°C, protect your plant with a mulch or horticultu
