A newcomer with exceptionally vibrant flowers from May to June each year. Aquilegia 'Earlybird Purple White' offers rich purple and white flowers with long, spurred backs and open, deeply cupped faces, accented by buttery yellow centres. Bred especially to be shorter than traditional varieties, with a height and spread of 30cm, 'Earlybird' is by no means reduced in its flowering habit though, with oodles of flowers to delight both you, your visitors and passing pollinators. They make a great inclusion in a vase or floral bouquet too. Alongside flowers, foliage emerges in April and is retained throughout summer with its deeply cut, lacy leaves bringing additional interest. Plants will readily naturalise in the right conditions, however seedheads can be removed to prevent this.Aquilegia 'Earlybird Purple White' prefers a spot in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. A fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which should be deadheaded regularly to ensure continual blooms.
