The double, rich, almost black, pompom-like blooms of Aquilegia vulgaris Black Barlow, nod in the breeze, as they are held on the wiry stems above layered petticoats of lacy grey green foliage.,. Happy growing in either your borders or containers, Aquilegia will encourage butterflies into your garden to feast on the nectar throughout spring and summerThe spur-less Barlow series were bred from a plant originally found in the garden of Nora Barlow. Aquilegias have many common names, such as Granny's Bonnet, or Columbine. In folklore, carrying a posy of Columbine was said to stir the affections of someone you love. Despite the delicate appearance, Aquilegia Barlow Black is a tough little chap and very easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil, in sun or part shade. Aquilegea Black Barlow will self-seed around your garden, or alternatively, collect the seed to sow and raise more plants the following year. Growing to a height of 90cm (36") and spreading to around 30-45cm (12-18"), Aquilegia Black Barlow is rabbit and slug resistant.
