Tell Me More...
A long-flowering, richly coloured antirrhinum which produces flowers from as early as May through to August. The eye catching, dark, almost black, foliage emerges earlier in April and is retained until October time - sure to turn heads even before the contrasting, sizzling pink blooms appear. The bright flowers are pollinator friendly and a marvellously unusual way of attracting both bees and butterflies into the garden. Fascinating to watch as the flowers bob up and down with each visitor. Stems can also be cut for a vase, where they will last up to 14 days inside your home. Enchantingly, the plant’s common name, Snapdragon, is said to originate from flowers having their throats squeezed and the ‘mouth’ of the flower immediately snapping open like a dragon’s mouth – try it for yourself, it’s great fun! Antirrhinum majus ‘Snap in Black Pink’ prefers to be planted in moist, well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay. Position in full sun where this half-hardy (H3), herbaceous perennial will reach a height and spread of 40cm. We recommend you lift or transfer your plants into a greenhouse or conservatory over winter if temperatures drop below -5 degrees C.
