Tell Me More...
Planting for a powerful late summer flush will breathe life into your garden when it needs it most, and for this there is no better plant to start with than the Japanese anemone. One of our top recommendations is the award-winning Anemone 'Queen Charlotte', its semi-double, soft pale pink flowers which are, somehow, extra luminous in the dim light of the ever-shortening days. The spherical buds are an attractive feature in their own right, nodding on tall, elegant stems before opening in midsummer to large (10cm across), round-petalled flowers. These continue well into autumn and are often among the last remaining flowers in the garden. Left undisturbed, Anemone 'Queen Charlotte' will spread to form a striking and impressive clump.Though beautiful, this herbaceous perennial is also tough, able to withstand temperatures of -20C and beyond. For best results grow in full sun to partial shade, in moist, fertile, humus-rich soil and avoid excessive winter wet. Japanese anemones dislike being moved, so choose your planting spot carefully.
