A statuesque and architectural addition to any garden, the Ancient Acanthus Duo makes an impressive statement. Handsome and elegant, the architectural leaf motif was used as a decoration of Greco-Roman and Classical architecture centuries before Christ.
Emerging in the spring, an abundance of fast growing, jagged leaves form large, striking clumps. In summer, tall stems rise, holding dozens of buds which slowly open from May to August. Originating from the Mediterranean, they are deer and rabbit resistant, and the blooms are a great source of nectar for friendly insects that will visit.
Collection comprises Acanthus hungaricas ‘White Lips’ – an unusual and slightly shorter acanthus, height 1m and spread 75cm; and Acanthus spinosus – a mass of hooded blooms pack tall stems, height 1.5m, spread 50-100cm.
