Anagallis monellii ‘Skylover’ is a stunning tender perennial which, whilst not exactly a measure of atmospheric pressure, is said to open its blooms on sunny days and close them when clouds or rain are pending – hence one of its common names – Poor Man’s Weatherglass. Furthermore, the deep, heavenly blue colour of its blooms is not just exceptional, but also rarely seen and always admired! Flowers provide a spectacular show from June through to October (and in sheltered areas until the first frosts). With a neat, compact habit it is ideal for rockeries or underplanting where it will form wonderfully cushioned, springy mounds. Anagallis monellii ‘Skylover’ also makes a great addition to your containers and hanging baskets where the creeping stems can gently cascade over the edges growing 30-40cm in height and spread. Prefers a site in full sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil of any kind. Mostly grown in the UK as an annual, this is a tender (H2), herbaceous perennial. However, it may become more perennial in milder parts of the country if mulched for extra protection.
