Tell Me More...
A delightful new arrival– Alstroemeria Pitchoune ‘Charlotte’ is a daintier alstroemeria than longer established varieties. Still packed with all the colour and pattern of taller cousins – radiating pink white and golden hues from June to October each year. Reaching a height and spread of 30cm, ‘Charlotte’ is perfect if your gardening space is a sunny windowsill, balcony or courtyard; yet will still provide dazzling drama to the front of an herbaceous border or in a larger planted container. Stems are strong enough to hold their own in vases or floral arrangements and a handy tip when using them as cut flowers is to pull stems from the base, rather than cutting them. The ‘wound’ which is left prompts the plant into producing even more stems, so more flowers. Alstroemeria Pitchoune ‘Charlotte’ likes a well-drained soil of any kind. Unfussy on aspect, plant in full sun or partial shade for best results. A half-hardy, herbaceous perennial which needs a protective mulch over winter in areas where temperatures fall below freezing.
