Tell Me More...
Creating a dramatic bank of colour, Alstroemeria ‘Majestic Lire’ amazingly produces exotic-looking, intense red-pink blooms with yellow throats from June through to autumn. This explains why they are so loved by gardeners and florists alike. Your home and garden will be filled with blooms that last up to 14 days in a vase. Easy to look after and bothered by very few pests. Just remember to pick or deadhead by pulling the flowers stems gently from the bottom of the plant. The resulting ‘wound’ then initiates new flowers. The more you pick, the more flowers grow. Originating from South Africa, Alstroemeria (or Peruvian Lilies) form fleshy tubers beneath the ground which increase each year to make an impressive clump of attractive foliage. The perfect base from which many stems rise producing buds that open to reveal stunning, blotched blooms that could have been painted by a brush. Alstroemeria represents friendship in the world of flowers. Each of the six petals a reminder of respect, commitment, humour, patience, understand and empathy. Alstroemeria ‘Majestic Lire’ prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade with a sheltered site reaching an approximate height of 50-90cm and spreading to 30-50cm. Being an herbaceous perennial, this beauty will die back during winter, to re-emerge the following spring.
