Tell Me More...
The delightfully flamboyant Alstroemeria 'Longue Rich bears its salmon-pink flowers with yellow speckled throats for a staggering six months of the year. Though exotic-looking, alstroemeria is far hardier than it looks and will thrive easily in most UK gardens. It is notable for an exceptionally long lifespan, providing decades of bright, bold, summer-long colour in return for very little attention. The ultimate low maintenance perennial! We love seeing 'Longue' in a hot border along with cannas, tagetes, ricinis and helianthemum, or woven through a busy cottage garden scheme as a rich, colourful 'filler'. Alstroemerias make fabulous cut flowers and are prized by arrangers for their impressive vase life of two to three weeks. Pull rather than cut stems, as this encourages further growth and avoids damage to the crown. For best results grow in full sun or partial shade in most, well-draining soil. We have also found alstroemeria to grow very well in a container. H: 50-90cm S: 30-50cm. Hardy to -20 C.
