The showy, funnel-shaped flowers of Alstroemeria Duchesses d'Anjou 'Isabelle' are deep, rich pink with a subtle flash of speckled yellow. Even better, they are in bloom for half the year, June to October and, though exotic-looking, is a tough plant which will thrive in most UK gardens. Its fleshy rhizomes form clumps which gradually increase in size each year, reliably producing masses of beautiful blooms and lush foliage. Is notable for its exceptionally long lifespan - we know of some lovely big clumps still flourishing having received little attention for decades. With their bold, bright colours and striking markings, alstroemerias fit beautifully into hot, tropical schemes or bustling cottage gardens. We often recommend them for weaving through a border as an undemanding way to tie other planting together. Alstroemerias also make excellent container plants, particularly the shorter varieties such as 'Isabelle' and are highly prized by flower arrangers for their vase life of two to three weeks. For best results grow with full sun or partial shade in moist, well-draining soil. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which reaches a height and spread of 50cm.
