Not only do they add their regal hues to borders and strategically planted containers, they make a marvellous inclusion in floral arrangements – with a vase life of 2-3 weeks! Sought after by florists, alstroemeria represent friendship in the world of flowers, with each petal having a deeper meaning too. A handy hint when picking Alstroemeria Duchesse d’Anjou ‘Emily’ from your own garden is to gently pull, rather than snip, the stems from the base of the plant. By doing this you create a ‘wound’ which prompts the plant to produce even more stems, and more flowers.
