Though exotic-looking, alstroemeria are far hardier than they appear and will thrive in most UK gardens. Notable for their exceptionally long lifespan and flowering season, providing decades of bright, summer-long colour in return for very little attention. The ultimate low maintenance perennial! Collection comprises; Majestic William - a softer, paler variety with white and pale pink blooms with speckled throat, height 45cm, spread 30cm; Leonie - a dainty, dwarf variety boasting showy, funnel-shaped flowers which are bright mauve-pink with speckled throats, height 30cm, spread 20cm; and Pierre - baby pink with speckled yellow throats, height 45cm, spread 30cm. Alstroemerias also make fabulous cut flowers and are beloved by arrangers for their vase life of two to three weeks. Pull rather than cut stems, as this encourages further growth and avoids damage to the crown. For best results grow in full sun or partial shade in most, well-draining soil. Alstroemeria are also well-suited to growing in a container and are hardy to -10 C.
