Allium hollandicum Purple Sensation is a RHS award-winning allium which is recognised for its outstanding and reliable impact in the garden. The beautiful blooms have become a garden favourite due to its easy going and long-lasting habit - representing excellent value too.Flowers are showy and intensely purple, born on strong stems above strap-like leaves through June and July each year. Foliage can fade even before the blooms open to offer their multi-headed spherical form, so plant in the mid-tier of the border where leaves can be hidden or in amongst other container plants which will mask this. Alternatively faded foliage can be trimmed back without impacting the beauty of the flowers.Allium hollandicum Purple Sensation prefers a site with well-drained soil in full sun. A hardy, bulbous perennial which is best planted in autumn. Blooms are perfect cut for a vase, where they will last up to two weeks. Seed heads, if left on the plants, also add further interest whilst stems remain upright and make a valuable inclusion in a dried flower arrangement.
