Tell Me More...
A sensational broad-leaved variety of allium which is new for 2024. Reaching a height of 50cm, with a spread of 30cm, Allium ‘Ostara’ is perfect for planting at the front of a border or in a special container where the bold globes of rich, reddish-purple will shine like precious jewels from June to July. Flowers are held in spherical clusters and have an almost spiky look to each petal on the starry flowers. As the flowers fade equally strong, sculptural seedheads remain for long-lasting impact above glaucous, impactful foliage which is retained from March right through to September time without fading or flopping like many other varieties of allium. Plant Allium ‘Ostara’ in a moist, well-drained soil of any kind except clay based and once established, it is drought tolerant enough for dry gardens and rockeries. Position in full sun with a south or west facing aspect for best results. A hardy (H5), bulbous perennial which should not require additional winter protection throughout
