Tell Me More...
Pink lily leek or Allium oreophilum is also known as Mountain Lover and would suit a rockery. Originally from Turkistan area this shorter allium produces up to 20 starry cerise pink flowers with a pink or yellow centre and deep pink vein lines which merge together to form a striking globular bloom. It is bushy in habit with narrow leaves and offers a bright centrepiece in the front or centre of a border. This allium is planted in September-November and will flower May-June. Ornamental onions are perfect to attract pollinators. Allium orephilum will grow well in most well-drained soil types and prefers an aspect in the sun but sheltered from strong winds. This ornamental onion will naturalise itself and grow in drifts of colour but clumps can be split after flowering. Pink lily leek is a perfect cut flower and will last 2 weeks as part of a flower arrangement.
