Tell Me More...
White garlic or Allium neapolitanum is known by a number of other names. Naples garlic, false garlic and Guernsey Star of Bethlehem are just three of them. Small white flowers form a spherical flower head. The flower spheres are more loosely held than other alliums and this helps to give a lacey effect. The blooms are supported by strong stems with low-lying foliage. Allium Neapolitan is a medium-sized ornamental onion which is best suited to the front of borders or as a clump in a pretty container. Alliums help to attract pollinators to the garden. They are planted in September-November and Neapolitan flowers slightly earlier than other alliums in April-May. They suit a full sun aspect and prefer well-drained soil sheltered from strong winds. Ornamental onions are ideal for use in a gift bouquet as they can last for up to 2 weeks in a vase. Divide clumps after flowering.
