Tell Me More...
Allium caeruleum is a beautiful member of the ornamental onion family. Also known as blue flowered garlic, it will help attract pollinators to the garden to enjoy a sumptuous feast.Dazzling, round, mid-blue blooms are formed from many smaller star-shaped flowers and adorn tall stems. The foliage sits at the base of the plant. This hardy, bulbous perennial mixes well with others and can be grown in either containers or borders. It is ideal to plant in the middle of a border where it will create an amazing focal point. This ornamental onion tolerates full sun and a broad range of well-drained soil types. It prefers to be sheltered from strong wind. Alliums are perfect for cut flower bouquets and last up to 2 weeks in a vase. Plant the bulbs in September-November for the perfect blooms in June or July. Ornamental onion clumps can also be split in the autumn to refresh another border.Allium caeruleum grows to an approximate height of 80cm and spread of 20cm and requires no winter protection in the majority of the UK. RHS rating of H5.
