Tell Me More...
Allium amethystinum Red Mohican is both striking and unusual. If you like something a little different, then this is the Allium for you.Bold, bright, wine-red, rounded flowerheads look almost drumstick-like as they are held on their strong, slender stems in summer. An extra, spiked tuft develops on top of each sphere, tipped with tiny white flowers, looking rather like the mohawk haircut, hence the name. Our friendly pollinating friends will go wild. Swaying in the breeze and wonderful planted in either borders or containers, the nectar and pollen rich spheres are perfectly accentuated when grown with ornamental grasses.Allium are both deer and rabbit resistant and look incredible when used as cut flowers, in arrangements, lasting well in a vase. Growing to a height of around 90cm, Allium amethystinum Red Mohican is drought tolerant and happy even in poor soils preferring well-drained soil in full sun or dappled shade. A hardy bulbous perennial that can be left in the ground, dying back over winter to sprout again in the spring.
