Tell Me More...
The name reptans comes from the Latin verb for 'creeping'. Unsurprisingly, your semi-evergreen plant provides excellent ground cover as it 'creeps' over your garden bed or rockery.Your Ajuga reptans 'Caitlin's Giant' forms a low-growing mat of large, glossy, purple-bronze leaves. From April to June, erect spikes of deep blue, 2-lipped flowers rise above the foliage. This RHS award-winner provides ground cover in a border, on a bank, or an area of the garden too shady for grass to grow. Certain butterfly species also use Ajuga reptans as a primary source of nectar - a perfect plant for a pollinator-friendly garden. Your fully hardy perennial thrives in a sheltered, partly sunny spot with most moist, well-drained soil. In maturity, your Ajuga reptans 'Caitlin's Giant' will reach a maximum height and spread of 45cm by 80cm.
