Tell Me More...
Agapanthus Tornado will certainly whirl and swirl its way into your garden and your heart. From June to September impressive trumpet-shaped blooms emerge above evergreen, mid-green strap-like foliage, with deep, dark purple outer petals opening to show paler striped tones inside. These almost globe like spheres will embody sophistication and elegance in any garden planting scheme from naturalistic prairie planting to a modern stand-alone statement piece. Comfortable in pots, containers and borders, drought, and salt tolerant, perfect for coastal gardens. The name comes from the Greek agape meaning love, and anthos meaning flower, hence the common name, Flower of Love and its not just us which adores them. The heavily nutritionally nectar-rich blooms are perfect for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, who will make a beeline for them! Agapanthus Tornado prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soil in a sunny sheltered position. Rated by the RHS as H4, it will only require winter protection if temperatures dip below -10 C.
