Exciting new breeding has developed this hardy, evergreen variety of agapanthus with strong, straplike foliage which remains fresh looking all year round. Agapanthus hybrida ‘Vallée de la Sarthe’ has multiple, trumpet shaped blooms which are held on long strong stems in generous, globe-like clusters from July to September each year. Perfect for cutting to add to a vase and outstanding in pots on a patio or on a balcony. Originally native to Africa, these clump-forming perennials love a spot in full sun with any aspect other than north facing. Plant in moist, well-drained soil of any kind other than heavy clay, once established plants are drought tolerant. Agapanthus hybrida ‘Vallée de la Sarthe’, like other agapanthus, grows best in a restricted space so provide this where possible. A hardy (H4) perennial which tolerates temperatures down to -10°C. Dependent upon where you garden in the UK some additional protection may be needed during the coldest weather.
