Tell Me More...
A stunning vision with conspicuous, ruby-red flowers, creating a living colour-changing picture from June to September. Achillea millefolium ‘Paprika’ produces huge, plate-like flowerheads, each created by masses of tiny blooms which start ruby-red, fade to light pink, then mature to mustard-yellow for an animated and ever-changing tapestry of colour. The horizontal flowerheads bring intriguing contrast to rounded and spiked flower shapes in border, rockeries and containers. Flowers are also excellent cut for your home, lasting well in a vase as either fresh or dried arrangements. Known also as ‘Soldiers Wound Wart’, legend states that Achilles used the plant to heal his soldier’s wounds after the siege of Troy. Historically, Achillea has also been used medicinally for many complaints - from nose bleeds to thrombosis. Achillea millefolium ‘Paprika’ is both rabbit and slug resistant with the nectar-rich blooms being much loved by bees, hoverflies and butterflies. Growing to a height of 50-75cm with a spread of 30-60cm plants prefer well-drained soil in full sun with any aspect other than north-facing. A fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which loses its leaves from November to February each year.
