Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Emerald Lace’ makes an exquisite feature tree with filigree foliage providing a spectacular display across the seasons. A true chameleon of the horticultural world, leaves emerge as a vibrant lime green in spring and transform to lush verdant green in summer, before finally offering a blaze of fiery reds in the autumn. The quality and excellence of this variety are acknowledged by an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Acers are rich with symbolism in Japanese culture and feature prominently in peaceful Zen gardens. In Japan, autumn is welcomed with a festival known as ‘momiji-gari’ or ‘maple tree viewing’ which celebrates Acers in all their autumnal finery. Capture this awe-inspiring beauty and sense of tranquillity in your own garden by planting an Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Emerald Lace’. Eventually reaching a height and spread of 4m after 20 years, the slow growth habit of this Acer means it can still be planted in a large container or more confined space. Japanese Maples prefers a sheltered position in dappled shade, and thrive on moist, well-drained soil with a mildly acidic or neutral pH. However, if the soil is kept moist, ‘Emerald Lace’ can tolerate full sun. Acers are hardy with an RHS hardiness rating of H6.
