When this mimosa flowers in late winter to early spring, you know the warm summer months are on their way. Acacia decurrens var. dealbata is a lovely, evergreen, small tree or shrub to brighten the mood of every gardener. Make sure your Acacia has plenty of sunshine, is planted in well-drained slightly acidic soil which is clay or loam based and this scented gold charmer, will bring you years of happiness. An RHS Award of Garden Merit recipient, Acacia decurrens var. dealbata will reach a height of up to 12 metres and a spread of up to 4 metres over 10-20 years. Drought tolerant with bright green foliage and yellow flowers which are heavily scented and perfect to encourage wildlife and pollinators into your garden. A half-hardy (H3) shrub which needs a sheltered south or westerly aspect and protection from hard frosts. Cut back after flowering as the following year’s flowers are formed in autumn, so don’t prune after late summer.
