Tigridia

History and Origin:

Tigridia are a genus of plants within the Iridaceae family native to the Western hemisphere. They are commonly known as peacock flowers, tiger flowers or shell flowers. The genus name means ‘tiger-like’ and alludes to the unique markings on each petal.

About:

Tigridia are bulbous perennial plants with slender lance-shaped foliage and colourful open-mouthed blooms with gorgeous contrasting central markings. Tigridia are best suited to flower beds and borders within a city or courtyard garden. Alternatively, they are ideal for container planting. You can expect to see Tigridia grow to an approximate height of 1-1.5m (3-5’) and a spread of 10cm (4”).
