Sarcococca

History and Origin:

Sarcococca are a genus of flowering plants within the Buxaceae family, native to eastern Asia. They are most commonly known as ‘Christmas Box or Sweet Box’. The genus name is derived from the Greek word ‘sarx’ and ‘kokkos’ meaning fleshy berry, which refers to the voluptuous fruits these plants produce.

About:

Sarcococca are compact evergreen shrubs with simple, leathery leaves and small, perfumed pale flowers that blossom during winter and spring, closely followed by purple, red or black berries.
