Hedychium

History and Origin:

Hedychium are a genus of plants within the Zingiberaceae family, native to Asia. It is more commonly known as garland flower, ginger lily or kahili lily. The genus name is derived from the Greek word hedys meaning sweet and chios meaning snow.

About:

Hedychium are rhizomatous perennials with strong, erect unbranched stems that bear thick, slender lance-shaped foliage and a dense cluster of showy, fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers. They are best suited to flower beds or borders within a city, courtyard or coastal garden. You can expect to see Hedychium grow to an approximate height and spread of 1.5-2.5m (5-8).
