Vaccinium corymbosum Brigitta (Late)

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Brigitta' is not only for the kitchen garden - it will happily thrive in a large container too and makes a stunning plant in its own right. Producing beautiful white, bell-shaped blooms, often with bluish tinge, from March to April which act as a terrific draw for pollinating insects. Flowers go on to develop into delicious, late cropping blueberries, commencing in July and cropping through to August. Then, as a final dramatic gesture, foliage take on rich, red hues in the autumn. That means, fantastic flowers, an abundance of low calorie, high antioxidant and vitamin rich berries and then a fiery autumnal foliage display too. We recommend fruit for smoothies, ice creams and other puddings - as well as eaten fresh as snacks, of course. Vaccinium corymbosum 'Brigitta', as all blueberries, likes to be planted in ericaceous (acidic) soil. It will happily grow in a container, so it is easy to meet this criterion even if you garden on alkaline or neutral soil. Prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun or part-shade. A hardy, deciduous fruit shrub which reaches a height of around 1.2m and spreads 90cm.
