Description

Tulip Sky High Scarlet, a single late flowering tulip really is, as the name suggests, sky high - growing up to 90cm tall! Unsurprisingly it is one of the tallest tulips available and will happily sit in the middle of the border to frame lower bedding and smaller shrubs accordingly. Flowers are large and a truly vibrant scarlet colour (think tomato-red). They are simple, oval-shaped blooms which grow aloft from the green-grey broad-leaved foliage beneath. Plant in moist but well drained, fertile soil in Autumn ready for flowering the following April-May. The stems on Tulip Sky High Scarlet are sturdy considering their potential height but do make sure they are protected from wind damage either in a sheltered spot or by some other form of support. Allow the foliage to die back after flowering in order to restore nutrients to the bulb before tidying the planting area.

How hardy are your plants?

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
