Description
Classified as a Single Late, the scented Tulip City of Vancouver is one of the latest tulips to flower in late April-May. Ivory white, single, cup-shaped blooms, with a soft creamy, yellow overtone that fades as the bloom matures. Tulips are native to areas of the Middle East, with cold winters and dry summers and are the most-loved spring season blooms both for your garden and as cut flowers to decorate your home as the spring weather warms up after a bleak winter. Once the ultimate symbol of prosperity and wealth. In the 17th century 'Tulipomania' took hold of Holland and in 1637 a single bulb of the rare Tulip Semper Augustus was priced at the same cost as a house on the most fashionable canal in Amsterdam at the time. Luckily, Tulips can now be enjoyed by everyone, as centuries later, breeders are continually working on producing new varieties including many with unusual shades and shapes. Tulips are versatile and happy in borders and containers. Plant Tulip bulbs in the autumn, around 15cm deep in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Tulip City of Vancouver grows to an approximate height of 50cm and is a hardy bulbous perennial to enjoy for years to come.
