Description
New and unusual, our Traditional Saponaria Collection offers pretty clump-forming, lance-shaped leaves from March to November which are great for filling gaps in the garden. Commencing in July and lasting until September, sweetly perfumed, open flowers are borne on strong stems, ideal for a vase or floral arrangement. This native species, often also called wild sweet William, is seen throughout Europe, Asia and Siberia - offering nectar-rich and robust blooms which are loved by bees, butterflies or other pollinators. Traditional Saponaria Collection comprises officinalis; officinalis 'Plena Alba'; and officinalis 'Plena Rosea'. Plants are perfect for wildlife areas, containers and rockeries - reaching a height of around 60cm and a spread of 90cm. All prefer well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade and are hardy, herbaceous perennials which are tolerant of temperatures as low as -15 C without any need for additional winter protection.
