Description

Trachelospermum jasminoides variegatum is different from the other trachelospermum varieties due to its light green and yellow foliage. The norm for this species of plant is to have dark green foliage, however having variegated foliage gives this trachelospermum a bright and airy feel and still with all the highly scented star shaped flowers. Self-twining stems with glossy variegated evergreen foliage create a wonderful foil for the abundance of simple, five-petalled, highly fragrant white blossom. Trachelospermum jasminoides is perfect climber trained up a wall, obelisk, maybe near a doorway or seat, in order you can fully enjoy the clouds of sweet scent. Native to Asia and southern China, the name Trachelospermum stems from Greek and means Neck Seed, because of the shape of the seeds. An oil often used in perfumery is extracted from the flowers. You may also hear the name Star Jasmine given to this gorgeous plant. Our growing tip - although reasonably hardy, Trachelospermum would prefer the warmth of a wall and does not like a cold east or north wind, so sheltered spot is best. The perfume from this plant when in full flower is remarkable.
